Woody's Cafe in East Tampa
So, I walk into Woody's with Ralph Smith, the big heart behind Computer Mentors, and Tommy Duncan, the guru of Sticks of Fire. We are having lunch in the modest soul food place on 29th Avenue in East Tampa to talk about a project to help Ralph's organization, which, among other things, provides computer training for kids. (More about that on Sticks.)
Once inside Woody's, a young man with a very familiar face looks up from a table in the corner and smiles. My brain goes into overtime. Who, who, who is it?
I'm bad with names, but good with faces. I know I know him from somewhere.
Me and a million NFL fans.
The gorgeous young man with the toothy grin was none other than former Tampa Bay Buccaneer quarterback, Shaun King.
The St. Petersburg native has bounced around pro football for a number of years since leaving the Bucs.
According to Wikipedia, King signed with a Canadian Football League team earlier this year, but was released.
With all the negative news these days about NFL quarterback Michael Vick, it was great to be reminded that there are some solid, giving folks involved in the game, including King, who was drafted during the Buc's Tony Dungy era.
Dungy, of course, is among the classiest guys on the face of the earth.
Too bad the Glazer's dumped him.

I once rode on a Gasparilla float with Shaun King. When he saw a person or group he knew he would leap off the fake pirate ship and dash into the crowd to greet the folks. He was like a big kid having fun and it was a treat to see a pro quarterback acting like a regular person. Glad to hear he is still a down to earth kind of guy.
