Constipated cats, Paris Hilton and other nonsense
What I learned today - well yesterday, actually - is that cats can become so constipated that they puke feces.
That is actually a piece of information I could have done without.
Petey, my son and daughter-in-law's cat, was relieved of his burden by a cat enema at the vet. (Aren't you glad you're not a vet tech?) Petey's parents are in North Carolina. I'm cat sitting. So I had to pick Petey up after his "procedure" and take him home. He was hungry. I fed him canned cat food with lots of moisture. I'll be checking the litter box very carefully to be sure what's going in Petey's mouth is coming out the other end.
Now, I bet you never thought you'd be reading about cat crap on my blog. But this is today's What I Learned Today entry. I also learned some other things today that I won't relate here. You can see some of them on www.sticksoffire.com.
I'm focusing on Petey's poop - well, the story of his inability to poop - because it's just so very bizarre. Probably uncomfortable for Petey, too.
The vet pointed out that in the wild cats eat a lot of fiber. "Fur, bones, vegetation."
They don't get much of that out of a bag or a can.
He suggested moist cat food can help prevent future bouts of colonic impaction.
That and kitty grass.
What I love about all this is that if you're a cat lover this information might come in handy and you can empathize.
If you're not it will at least provide the same kind of diversion to all the negativity in the world as the Paris Hilton story.
Say, did you hear she's out of jail?
